why study abroad

Many people dream to study abroad in the future. I think there are three reasons why people want to study abroad. First of all, they could learn to live in a place that is not familiar to them by themselves in a foreign country. They can also meet people that grow up in a culture that are different than us. Most importantly, they can gain more knowledge to reach their professions.
In a foreign country, they can learn to live by ourselves in a place that they are not familiar with. They could learn to find ways to survive in an exotic country which may be very useful for the future. By depending on oneself would also make a person become much more mature and become a person that is not fear of challenges.
The most interesting part of studying abroad is that people can meet people of different culture. We can learn about other culture from making friends. From them we will not only broaden our knowledge but also our horizon. It would also make us be much more open-minded and be much easier to accept the difference between different cultures.
The main reason why most people like to study abroad is that they can gain knowledge to reach their professions. If people just study n one country, they might only see an issue from one angle. Being in the country, you could learn to see from different point of view. In that way, people can translate an event much more completely than before.
Those three points above are what I think are the reason why people like to study abroad. Learning in a foreign country can not only let us gain our knowledge but also make our future better.

It is nice to live in a big city

While some people like to live in a small town, I prefer to live in a big city. Live in a big city has three advantages. First of all, living in a city is much more convenience. In addition, it also provides many international activities. Most importantly, in a big city, you can meet a lot of different kind of people.In a big city, the transportation system is more modernized and there are more bus stops. Even the taxis are everywhere. As for international activities, many concerts and performances like the musical “The phantom of the opera” performed in Taipei. And many popular singers’ concerts are either held in Taipei or Taichung. And since there is much more jobs in a big city. A big city would have different kind of people gathered together. It is always interesting to see different people’s behaviors toward the same thing. The reasons above are why I like to live in a big city.

study and college

I believe that this time is the roughest time for students in senior three in Taiwan, just like I am now. There are only 97 days from the entrance exam on January 21 and 22. Most students must study very hard now, but it is also important that we have to think about what our goals are- which college and what to major in. I think that there are two points that should be considered when you are making the decision. First of all, you have to find out what you are really interested in, if not, try to find the subject that you like it better and go to some websites to look for some details and see if that interest you. The other one is that you have to think about what the future too. You have to find out what you can do after you graduated from the college, otherwise, you might end up facing job finding problems right after you graduate. That is besides studying, we have to think our future or we will be very frustrated when we face the problems.

Favorite songs

There are two songs that I like very much. One is “Yesterday once more “by Carpenters, and the other one is called “Because love is in our hearts”(愛因為在心中), which is sung by Wang Leehom . Yesterday once more is mainly about a girl that when she was young she would always listen to the radio waiting for her favorite song; however, as she grew up, she found that those melodies seemed so far away from her. But when she heard the song once again, she discovered that those words in the songs came back to her just like a long lost friend. And I could feel the extreme happiness that she must have felt. The way Carpenters sang the song really gives the feeling that I am going back to when I was young and have no pressure from daily life, and just do whatever I want. Even just waiting to see a cartoon or playing with other people. Those are the days that most people would like to go back to. And they sang out every person’s deepest feeling. As for the one by Wang Leehom, it wants to show that friendship is important, it can lighten the darkness in your life and give you strength and courage to face the obstacles. Even if everyone has different dreams and that sometimes it makes us feel that the shining star is way far to reach but when we share it with each other, no matter we failed to achieve the goal or succeeded, we will always be touched and appreciate the love and the support form others. These two songs revealed two important thing in our life and I was deeply touched when I heard them for the first time.

(Situation) This book is called UGLIES which is written by Scott Westerfeld. In this book, it talks about extreme beauty and anyone normal is ugly. It is a place that when you get to eighteen years old, and then the government would gather all the newly turned eighteens to do a unique surgery in order to make them a beauty. The main character in this book is a girl named Tally whose best friend, Peris, who just turned eighteen three months before. She then met a girl whose name was Shay, the girl who told her about a place called Smoke.( A place where the normal hid in order to get away from the city that had to do surgeries to be beautiful and a place that the government tried to find for many times .)(Conflict) Tally didn't go to the Smoke with Shay because she wanted to be pretty. Unfortunately, the government found out that Shay had run away and they threaten Tally that if she would not help them to dig out where the Smoke was they would never turn her to be a beauty. And the government sent her parents and her old best friend, Peris, to persuade her to cooperate with them. So she needed to choose whether she should be faithful to her good friend or let herself be a beauty. At last, she chose to go find the Smoke according to the clues that Shay left for her. (Suffer) After she finally get to the Smoke, she found out the people in there are all uglies, however they are unlike the uglies back in the cities, who are very ashamed of their appearance. It was like a heaven for the people there and she started to think more about whether she should damage this great place just because of her selfishness. And she felt much more guilty after knowing the reason why the place was established- to stay away from a beauty surgery that would do some damage to your brain. (Outcome) The government found out where the Smoke was and killed most of the people in the Smoke by a mistake Tally did. In the end, in order to make up, she was willing to be turned pretty to test on a risky medicine that might cure the damage that the surgery would do, to make the people’s minds to be normal again.
Reflection: Pretty or ugly is judged by oneself. People should appreciate their looks instead of despise them. Those who did the surgery to be beautiful not only lose their real appearance but also their true self.

For nowadays Taiwan is not so well known in the world. It needs more people like Ang Lee to make the world recognize Taiwan. And I hope one day in the future I could be a famous successful business professional. ( I have dreamed of being a diplomat when I was in the junior high. But by seeing these days' political incidents, it makes me think more about what I want to be. ) Since now I am just a senior high student, I still have a lot to learn. I hope I would learn Japanese in the university and some day in the future I could go to the USA to study about business. I know it is a long way to go to acheive my goal, however, I will take any efforts it needs to reach it.
